Haunted: Catacombs
Haunted: Catacombs
By Lee Mountford
The Sexton’s musings (spoilers are likely):
Sarah is stupidly optimistic and foolish when it comes to her sister. It’s interesting that she is lured into a location that we are familiar with. The Paris Catacombs. A rather frightening place that many have disappeared exploring. The addition of the temple is just the icing on the cake.
Out of all of the books in this series, dare I say all of the books by Lee that I have read so far this one has made me the most angry. Sarah is constantly droning on and on about it being her fault that so many people have died and what does she do? She puts more people in danger. And not just the immediate people who are with her or her team (David and Rachel) but the entire world as we know it. As of right now there are only a handful of deaths that could be attributed to Sarah but since she can’t seem to not put herself at risk of being turned every five min she’s going to have the worlds population being decimated in her concise. She acts contrary to things that are causing her pain and angst.
Now let talk about her interactions with Chole. There are red flags all over the place! If she’d just get her head out of her ass for a few moments she would see them. Hell it’s even mentioned that she felt it strange that Chole had told her to keep all of it from her team. When has she ever been that way? NEVER! She has always been transparent to all of those she trusted in life. She has never hidden her light away until the final battle of the last book where I think she used up all of her strength to ward off the darkness. Double guilt for you on that one Sarah. Not to mention that the whole Father Luca thing also made no sense. There was no reason for him to be in the catacombs. I think a fucking monkey could see this trap from a million miles away. It’s absolute insanity.
Now let’s talk about Charlotte. This bitch drives me crazy. They did not come down there to save your worthless ass. They are there for a reason and they are not going to abandon their reason for being there to get you to safety. Considering it was her group’s decision to stay down there even though they were warned off by Sarah several times in their conversation. They laughed her off and now they want the people looking for her to beg off for her. Yeah fuck you you entitled little cunt; oh, and shut up... Just shut the fuck up. You don’t like what they are doing then take your skanky ass off alone and find your own way out. No one is stopping you.
We run into Silas and Mary again as well. And there is a huge “I told you so” thrown at Sarah. Yes it’s unfortunate but Sarah is the one that keeps putting herself in situations where her actions could end the world so the state of her sister is really on her. She became vulnerable because she kept having to save her. That’s the cold hard truth.
Now Antoine can also figure out a way to suck his own dick. He becomes a real asshole. He was the one that was all gung-ho. Sarah gave him and Camille multiple opportunities to dis connect themselves from all of it. To leave. But he thought it was just too exciting and too big of an opportunity to get something on camera for their little show. Man, people need to take some responsibility for their own decisions. Stop pointing the finger just because you fucked yourself. That’s on you, bitch!

Closing thoughts:
I actually got so mad at Sarah in the beginning half of the book that I had to stop reading it. The frustration level was off the chart and really it did not get much better. This one is full of characters that make you want to punt their head off a cliff. I could not find it in myself to feel badly for some of them. Their fate was attached to their own decision. Good, bad, or otherwise. Some of the contradictions are pointed out and that gives some satisfaction.
The catacombs are a really awesome setting for this one. Their very essence screams creepy. I do have to say that while I was frustrated along the way with some of the characters, we did learn some new things in this one. I did end up angry one more time and this was at the ending. Of course there is one more book and good thing I have it because waiting for the next installment of this one would have been torture. We travel back to Perron Manor for the last book and I’d imagine it’s going to be a blood bath. I suppose we shall find out little Ghoulies!
