Haunted: End of Days
Haunted: End Of Days

The Sexton’s musings (spoilers are likely):
Okay! Sarah! Really?! She is back to trusting Chloe and on top of that she has involved her infant niece too. I understand that she may have gotten some of the sludge in her system during the last battle but come on. To have it cloud her this much. Or is she just pathetic and broke because of what she found out happened to Chloe? What is wrong with this woman!? I just can’t with her anymore. Perhaps she will perish in this last one and do us all a favor. I’m not sure she can redeem herself in my eyes. Even if she does sacrifice herself. I fear for David, Rachel, and (especially) Ralph. Secondary characters have not faired very well in this series up to this point. Looks like Chole’s husband, Andrew is going to make an appearance again as well. He also probably should watch his back. Not as attached to him as I am Ralph but he’s really all that Emma has so he needs to not be stupid.
All of the smirking and smugness from the agents of the Darkness is pissing me off to the max. Especially when it’s Sarah or Chloe. Sarah should be an obvious one with me. I know, I know…it’s not really her for most of this one but come on. The fact that she is willing to sacrifice Emma tells me that it’s not her but where is she? She’s in there somewhere I suspect. For all of her bravado in the previous books she is being awfully placid here. Like David keeps saying, what happened to all of that fight? (As a side note: Andrew is going to get himself and David killed if he does not pull his head out of his ass. Then where is Emma going to be?)
We revisit Antoine as well.
Closing thoughts:
I have to say that this is a very interesting take on the end of the world. We have some biblical references such as the dead walking and heaven burning. We also have some interesting changes to the hierarchy as well. The “Devil” is not the top tier here. It’s a huge eye in the sky that is in charge. Reminds me a little of “Lord of the Rings” or at least that is what keeps popping into my head.
The other interesting part is how the human race is going out. They are being forced to take themselves out and it’s not in a pretty way. In fact it involves the eyes so if you a squeamish this is not the book for you. It gets gory, not insanely gory but moderately gory. Plus I’m sure there are some Ghoulies out there that eyes are their thing, the one thing that gets under their skin. Mine is teeth and fingernails, so I understand. It doesn’t stop me but it makes me cringe. It’s also nice that there are incremental characters that are not part of the main story included to show how it is impacting random people all over the world. This includes the Pope, who in this story seems like a decent man.
